HISTORY: Ardis Coninx, a retired school librarian, came to Westminster Place in 2001, saw a dusty old collection of uncatalogued books held in a small room, volunteered to organize the collection and established the nucleus of the Calvin Circle Library. By 2003 the small collection of cataloged books was moved to the current library location and Ardis continued to be the librarian in charge until the summer of 2018.
RESOURCES: The Library now holds more than 5,000 books (approximately 450 of them in large print), over 465 DVDs. It also houses a special collection of books and documents authored by residents of Westminster Place. These materials are all listed in the Library Catalog. The Library also receives The Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal and the New York Times.
HOURS: 7:30 a.m until 6 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
STAFFING: Volunteers are available to assist residents during weekdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Other volunteers work behind the scenes, acquiring, cataloging, and publicizing materials. A few volunteers are available by appointment to assist residents with electronic resources, such as use of the Library catalog.
If you have questions or comments about the library, or suggestions to offer, please call the Chairperson of the Library Committee, Albert Menard (2972). Karen Minturn (2871) is the Library Coordinator. Your input is welcome.
